Father, Son Die in Crash

Arthur and Clarence Thomas, Former Bentonsport Residents, Killed in Wreck at Davenport

Two former Van Buren county residents were killed and another landed in jail as a result of the collision of a car and a truck at Davenport Saturday evening.

The dead are Arthur Thomas, 51, and son, Clarence, 34. Harry Thomas, driver of the car, son of Arthur Thomas, was taken to the Davenport jail for investigation. Arline Brink, 31, of Rock Island, Ill., who was a passsenger in the Thomas car, was injured critically.

Although the driver of the truck escaped injury, the crash knocked the four rear tires of his truck and broke both axles.

The Thomas family formerly lived at Bentonsport. Mrs. Arthur Thomas, the former Miss Mary Swift of Hillsboro, died about a year ago and left several small children. Mr. Thomas also is survived by several grown children by a previous marriage, and two brothers, Oscar Thomas of Bentonsport and Will Thomas of Argyle. Clarence Thomas is survived by three children.

Arthur Thomas and Clarence Thomas moved from Rock Island to Montpelier, Iowa, about two months ago. Harry Thomas had been living near Rock Island.
