Keosauqua Man Leaves Large Estate
George Findlay who died at Keosauqua, July 16, 1940, left an estate of over $200,000 according to an inventory on file in the office of Clerk of Court Glen Williams at Keosauqua. D.S. Plowman of Douds is administrator and the heirs are Findlay's wife, Elsie Findlay, whose share is one-third and his daughter Miss Verna Findlay whose age is thirty-three.
Included in the inventory are the following: contracts of sale on real estate, $4,765; checkin account in Douds bank, $1,545.64; certificates of deposits in Douds bank, $5,000 and $5,000; postal savings, $2,500; mortgages, $4,500, $1,400, $6,002, $3,000, $4,000, $1,032, $2,000, $2,000, $1,700, $400, $6,000, $1,500, $3,200, $1,600, $1,000, $250, $250, $50, $800, $1,200, $6,000, $600, $4,000, $2,000; 3 shares in the Farmers and Traders Bank of Douds, $300; U.S. treasury bonds, $95,200; Van Buren county primary road bonds, $10,000 and real estate.
According to the tax books in the county treasures office, Mr. Findlay paid taxes on monies and credits of $25,000 for each of the years, 1937, 1938 and 1939 in Van Buren county.
