GOLD STAR MOTHER RECEIVES 136 CARDS
**Handwritten: 1942

Mrs. Joe M. Barker, Keosauqua, Gold Star mother, who is recuperating at her home following treatment at a hospital for injuries suffered when she fell on ice at her home recently, received a shower of 136 cards and letters on her birthday, January 15.

A telephone has been installed at the side of Mrs. Barker's bed and she is thereby enabled to visit with friends. Her knee is in a cast but it is though the cast will be removed in about a week.

CARD OF THANKS

To all the dear friends who remembered us so kindly in our great sorrow, for the get-well cards and letters sent to me in my illness, and for the lovely birthday shower. I sincerely thank you one and all.
