Former Keosauqua, Husband Killed When Truck Leaves Road

Mr. and Mrs. I.D. Allison Were Enroute to His Work; Found By His Brother
**Handwritten: Nov. 5 1944

The bodies of Mr. and Mrs. I.D. Allison of Libertyville were recovered Wednesday morning from the cab of a gravel truck which had overturned into a creek about 3 1-2 miles south of Libertyville on the Libertyville-Douds road Tuesday night.

The truck was discovered by a brother, Jack Allison, about 9:30 o'clock Wednesday morning as he was on his way to work at Douds. Jefferson County Sheriff Thomas Howell, who was summoned, said the bodies were immersed in water, which filled the cab of the truck.

J.R. Peters, acting coroner of Jefferson county, investigating the tragedy, said no inquest will be held. Both deaths are believed due to drowning or exposure. Authorities expressed the belief the Allisons may have been stunned when the truck upset in the creek and drowned before regaining consciousness.

Mr. and Mrs. Allison left home about 8 o'clock Tuesday night for the gravel pit at Douds. Tracks indicate that the truck swung off the road just north of the bridge where it went over the embankment and overturned in the creek.

There were no signs of skidding, although it is believed fog may have caused the driver to miss the slight turn just ahead of the bridge. Mrs. Allison's watch stopped at 8:20 o'clock.

The bodies were taken to the Hoskins funeral home in Fairfield.

Mr. Allison, operator of several gravel trucks, is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Allison of Libertyville; a son, Donnie, 3, who makes his home with his grandparents in Libertyville; three brothers, Jack and Bill at home and Keith, who lives eost(sp) of Libertyville, and two sisters, Mrs. Merrill Cooksey and Mrs. Ralph Harrison, of Libertyville.

Mrs. Allison was the former Margaret Jones of Keosauqua, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry W. (Casey) Jones. She was married to Mr. Allison about a year ago. Besides her parents, she is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Raymond Harnagel of Farmington and Mrs. Murrell Kelly of San Francisco, Calif., and one brother, Herbert Jones of Chicago.

Funera(l) arrangements are pending further word from California.
