Dramatic Pictures Tell Story Of Accident Which Preceded Death Of Spotted Fever Victim

Courier Photos

Here are two unusual pictures taken at the scene of an accident which involved Rex Rambo of Keosauqua, who died Saturday morning in a Fairfield hospital of Rocky Mountain spotted fever. The accident occurred Friday afternoon as Rambo was driving toward Fairfield on highway No. 34, where the Rambo truck struck a horse in a team hitched to a cultivator and driven by Joe Mickels, Batavia route 2. In the picture at the top, the injured horse may be seen at the right near the cultivator. At the horse's head is young Mickels. At the left in the top picture Highway Patrolman William Matias is seen kneeling over the prostrate form of Rambo who was forced to lie down at the side of the road after the accident. Rambo appeared dazed and confused; was taken to the Fairfield hospital by Patrolman Matias. The photographs were taken almost immediately after the accident by a Courier photographer who happened to be passing by on trip.
