Cornell-Holmes.
There was a beautiful wedding at Hickory Crest, the beautiful country home of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Holmes, when their daughter, Miss Grace Olive was given in marriage to Lloyd Ernest Cornell on Wednesday, October 18. ["05" handwritten here]
A large assembly of relatives and friends were present to witness the happy scene. Such a charming day and place made the affair of more than usual beauty and everything was arranged with charming simplicity.
The ceremony took place in the front parlor where an embankment of autumn leaves and houseplants made a beautiful improvised altar.
At high noon the chorus from Lohengrin announced the approach of the wedding party, Rev. Clark leading followed by the groom and his best man, his brother Hugh. The bride was preceded by Misses Bessie Elerick and Ethel Cornell as maids of honor, and the bride entered with her father who gave her in marriage.
The bride is a lovely girl and wore a bridal gown of white landsdow with bertha of duchess lace. She carried a beautiful boquet [sic] of roses. Misses Elerick and Cornell were dressed in white and carried carnations.
The ceremony was performed by Rev. Clark of Bonaparte. A reception followed and many were the expressions of happy wishes extended the bridal couple.
The father and mother of the bride gave them a lovely sewing machine and forty dollars in gold. The parents of the groom gave $20 in gold and other beautiful gifts. Grandma Manette gave them $10 in gold. They also received many beautiful pieces of silver, decorated china, water sets, linen, etc.
The groom is a prominent business man of New York and a host of friends are extending felicitations. They will be at home after November 1 at 97 Perry street, New York, where they go via Niagara Falls.
Among the out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Holmes of Denmark, Mrs. E. E. Lucas of Fairfield, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Cornell and son and daughter of Keosauqua, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Holmes and daughter of Ft. Madison, Mr. and Mrs. Brit Holmes of Creston, Dr. and Mrs. Loxley Holmes of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Dr. Elerick and daughter of Keosauqua.
