Keosauqua -- Emmett Peacock, 55, was killed Tuesday when a truck on which he was working fell on him. Peacock's body was found by a neighbor, Lloyd Madden. There were no broken bones, and only one scratch on the body, and it was believed death was due to suffocation. It was thought the truck fell from its hoist in such a manner as to close Peacock's windpipe. Peacock owned a farm 3 miles east of Mount Sterling, and also operated a bulldozer. He owned a large amount of earthmoving machinery, and was working on one of his own trucks at the time of the accident. He was underneath the machine. What caused the hoist a give way has not been determined. A long-time resident of Van Buren County Peacock was born in the county on April 20, 1896, the son of Ed and Mae Fowler Peacock, he attended school at Keokauqua, and is survived by his widow, Mrs. Berniece Peacock, and his mother who lives at the Peacock home. A brother is dead. Services have been tentatively scheduled to be held Thursday afternoon. The body is that the Burnett-Cattcott funeral home.
