Weiny's Sky Ride
In December 1869, the day before he was married,
George Weiny, living north of Milton, came to Keosauqua on horseback after his license. Because the ferries were not running at Pittsburg or Keosauqua, he came to Pleasant Hill by way of Tug Forks, and after leaving his horse in Pleasant Hill was conveyed across the river in some sort of basket, suspended from a cable high in the air. It was a thrilling ride for that early day.
