Kelly's Army Visited Bonaparte
Kelly's Army passed through Bonaparte in 1894, contributing a great deal of excitement to the little town. As soon as news of the army's arrival spread scores of townspeople rushed to the south side of the river to see the boats go over the dam. The wollen mills ceased operations in order that the employees might see this novel sight. The river was dotted with the frail looking crafts and the group camped at Reed's Creek, east of town. Bonaparte gave them six hundred loaves of bread. A band, a glee club and a base ball club were included in the army.
