In the log cabin belonging to Miss Laura Hinkle, Selma, Iowa, stands an old square piano which once belonged to Miss Hinkle's mother when the latter was a little girl. Miss Hinkle's grandfather, James H. Jordon, of Iowaville, paid
$1,000 for the piano which he ordered from Boston about 1849. The piano was shipped by railroad to Burlington, Iowa. Since there were no railroads farther west than this, the piano was hauled by an ox team from Burlington to the Jordon home in Iowaville.
