Hal H. Fulton and Nelle T. Bales were married at 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, 1905, at Carthage, Ill. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Jacob Yutzy, pastor of the Lutheran church at Carthage, at the parsonage, in the presence of Misses Margaret Rosentengel, Minnie Rosentengel and Ama K. Yutzy. Mr. and Mrs. Fulton returned via the Wabash to Keokuk, arriving home at Bentonsport the next morning. Their marriage was kept a secret until November 18, when the fact was made public, to the great surprise of their friends and relatives, who had thought the couple had only attended the street fair at Keokuk.
