I, Jacob Hootman of Van Buren County, Iowa, being of sound mind and memory do make this my last will and testament in manner and testament in manner and form following that is to say:

First: I give and bequeath to my wife Christiana the farm I live on in Washington Township, containing two hundred and forty acres and my chattel property during her natural life. After her death I give and bequeath to my son Henry my farm containing two hundred and forty acres more or less lying and being in Washington Township on the condition; that he is to pay my daughter Hannah the sum of One Hundred Dollares one year after my death, adn my daughter Susanna Cooper, one Hundred (sp) dollars two years after my death, and my daughter Elizabeth Allen, the sum of fifty dollars three years after my death, and to my daughter Catharine Railsback the sum of One Hundred dollars four years after my death, and to my daughter Sarah Rail, the sum of One Hundred dollars 5 years after my death, and to my son Jacob the sum of one hundred dollars seven years after my death, also my son Henry is to pay my debts and funeral expenses. Also I give to my son William three dollars. Also I give to my son David one plough and lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my son Christopher Hootman to be my executor.

In testimony whereof I, Jacob Hootman have set my hand and seal this first day of October in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-eight.

Jacob Hootman (seal)
Signed and sealed in presence of us as witnesses. James Robinson Jacob Dowell

Note: From what I can make of it Jacob died sometime shorty prior to Sept 3 1860 as that is when his will was filed in probate court.
My abstract book is for property being: the East half fo the NE 1/4 of Section 8, Township 69, North, Range 9 West, in VB county containing 80 acres more of less. I believe from further absract information that the other 160 acres that is referred to in this will is the SE 1/4 of Section 5 directly to the north of the before mentioned property.
