The tenth wedding anniversary of John Jameson and Carrie Whitlock Fegtly

"A HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

On Saturday evening last, Sept. 12, 1891, Bro. John J. and Sister Carrie E. Fegtly, two of the leading members and best workers in Emporia avenue M.E. church, celebrated their tenth anniversary of their marriage. In response to neat and unique invitations sent out-neatly engraven on heavy, highly polished tin cards-over a hundred of their friends gathered at their spacious home on south Main street, to extend congratulations. And join in the celebration of the happy event.

The evening was spent in congratulations, social converse, partaking of a bountiful repast, listening to delightful music, viewing the great exhibition of fine presents, etc. The occasion was indeed a very happy one for all present. It answered the purpose also of a reception to the Misses Mary E. and Alethea Randall, of Farmington, Iowa, nieces of Brother and Sister Fegtly, who arrived a day or two before, and will make their home with them while attending the high school here. . This made the occasion doubly interesting to the many friends of Mary Randall, who attended the school here last year and was heartily welcomed back.
One seldom has the privilege of looking upon such a fine display of presents-costly and useful-as Brother and Sister Fegtly were the recipients of on this occasion. No wonder they are proud of their friends. Some of the presents were more appropriate for a crystal wedding than a tin wedding.

Among the many complements, regrets and congratulations sent in was the following appropriate greeting from a lady friend, a near neighbor:

To Mr. and Mrs. J.J.F.:

1881-1891

The tin, tin, tin of wedding bells;

The tinny tinkling tinkle tells

Of ten times one departed years,

Of wedding life through smiles and tears. O.F.R."
