We are requested to state that the following resolutions have been withheld from the press by the frustration of the meeting of the League at Birmingham:
Resolutions on the Death of Capt. Randall:
WHEREAS, By a sad and calamitous stroke of was our beloved brother, Capt. W.H. RANDALL, has been called upon to lay down his life for his country; and whereas, he has, by an upright walk among us and a faithful discharge of duty in his country's service, won our highest regards,
Resolved, That the Union League of Birmingham, as a body, offer its condolence for the family and friends of the deceased.
Resolved, That while we greatly lament the loss of our brother we rejoice to know that he was always prepared for death, and it is a consolation to know that he died while nobly leading his men in a charge upon an unprincipled foe, avenging the death of their gallant Colonel.
Resolved, We offer our sympathy for all those who have been bereft of friends by this unholy war.
Resolved, That while we lament the existence of this deplorable civil war we will never submit to a dishonorable peace, but will use our utmost exertions to encourage the Administration and our gallant armies in the suppression of this wicked rebellion, and the more we are called upon to mourn the loss of friends in the army the more we do loathe and detest a despicable class of the North who are willing to lend their influence in prolonging the war.
Resolved, That we present a copy of these resolutions to the family of the deceased, one to his company, and one to each of the following papers for publication: Keosauqua Republican, Keokuk Gate City and Fairfield Ledger.
