COLLECTION OF CANES GIVEN TO HOSPITAL

A stock of some 500 canes, left on the farm of Mr. and Mrs. George Saylor near Douds a number of years ago by an elderly man whose hobby was making walking sticks is going to Winter general hospital at Topeka, Kansas, for the benefit of G.I. Joes who are recovering there from combat wounds.

The gift of the canes to the hospital came about somewhat by chance. While visiting at the hospital recently with their son, Pfc. Ronald Saylor, who was wounded in France, Mr. and Mrs. Saylor were deeply impressed by the friendly courtesy of the personnel and patients there.

Mr. Saylor had taken along two of the canes and found a ready demand for them. Interested in the supply from which the samples came, the patients agreed to accept the 500 canes, refinish them and distribute them among the wounded who can use them.
