Carol Ann Nelson was born on 20 November 1936 in Van Buren Co, Iowa to Merle Nelson and Roberta Johnston. Carol grew up on the family farm south and west of Stockport. She attended Stockport High School, where she was a cheerleader for the basketball team; was also in the band, where she played the French horn and sang in the glee club.
She married Roxie Lawson on 27 February 1954. Their first child, Teresa Ann was born in Keosauqua, IA, on 22 Sep 1954. They moved to Ft Madison, Iowa, where Carol went to work for Northwestern Bell as a telephone operator. The following year their second daughter, Linda Kay, was born 22 Aug 1956, in Ft Madison, IA. Carol transitioned into secretarial work and for the next few years worked for the Schaefer Pen in Ft Madison, IA.
In 1961, the family moved to Montrose, IA., where they resided until 1963.
The family moved to Muscatine, IA, in 1963, where Carol went to work for the Monsanto Co., as an executive secretary. She continued working in this line as an executive secretary with the Stanley Corp. Her next position was with the Bandag Corp., as executive secretary & management assistant to the vice president in charge of Franchises.
In 1978, she and her husband transferred to Casa Grande, AZ, where Carol went to work as an executive secretary for the city of Casa Grande in the public works department and recording secretary for the Industrial Development Authority.
They bought into a cement processing plant in Stephensville, TX., in 1982 and for the next two years resided there.
They returned to Arizona in 1984 and bought a new home in Arizona City, near her sister Desda, where they resided for the next ten years.

During the early years of their marriage they also raised Roxies’ younger sister.
