Jacob Nixon, son of Patrick Nixon, was born Sept. 20, 1785. His father was a native of North Park, Ireland, and after being educated for the priesthood he came into possession of a Bible, by which he was converted to the Protestant faith. After being converted he took passage on a Protestant vessel bound for England. While on board, the vessel was searched by Romanists, but he remained in hiding. From England he came to America. After marrying a German lady, they moved to Pennsylvania, where Jacob was born. When Jacob grew to young manhood it could easily be seen that he had acquired the fidelity and perseverance which his father had possessed. He was married in 1806, but after a period of only ten years his wife passed away. He was later married to Barbara Troutman. About May 1, 1818, they started westward in wagons to find a new home in Ohio. They settled in the woods in Franklin Twp., Wayne Co., near the present Trinity church.

They soon became active members of this church and he was elected elder in 1844 and fulfilled the duties loyally and faithfully until 1846 when he removed from the community. The first communion set that the church used was presented to him.

About the year 1850 they moved to Cedar Co., Iowa, where they remained for several years. After the death of his wife he returned to Ohio, where he spent the remaining part of his life. He finished his earthly journey July 13, 1872.
