(The following biographical sketch was prepared for publication in this paper by the Bonaparte Centennial Committee.)

FREDERICK KEASLING

Frederick Keasling was born Feb. 2, 1817, in Bavaria, Germany, and came to America in 1848 after a six week's journey in crossing the Atlantic ocean. He located at Burlington, Iowa, at which place he stayed about a year, then in 1849 came to Farmington where he lived about three years. He moved to Bonaparte in 1853 and was employed by Meek and Bros., in the flour mills, where he worked ten or twelve years.

He was married to Miss Sarah Miller, eldest daughter of Peter and Mary Miller, with whom she had come from West Moreland county, Pennsylvania, two years before, in 1854. They immediately moved to the home which the husband had purchased, and which is now occupied by Mrs. Mary Shaffer Wallingford.

After leaving Meek and Bros. Flour mills he was employed in the Bonaparte tannery, owned and operated by U. G. Quirin. This tannery was in a building later known as the Whitlock building and was on the now vacant corner, just north of the present postoffice.

He was next employed by the Bonaparte Pottery, owned and operated by Parker, Hanback and Wilson, and remained there until the spring of 1874, when they purchased a farm two miles northeast of Bonaparte, and where he lived until his death Oct. 15, 1888, aged 71.

The wife and mother continued her residence at the old home until her death August 6, 1905, aged 77. Of the seven children but two remain -- William and Archibald. The others were Amanda A., Mary E. and Sarah J., while Charles married May Wooden, and Henrietta married Henry Haberman.
