(The following biographical sketch was prepared for publication in this paper by the Bonaparte Centennial Committee.)

ANDREW MILLER

Andrew Miller was born in Germany and came to America at the age of ten or twelve, and located and married in Baltimore County, Maryland, where he died at the age of 62. There were nine children as follows: Barbara Sowers, David, Michael, Andrew, John, Jacob, George and Lydia.

The son, Michael, who was born in Baltimore County, Maryland, Feb. 10, 1796, married Anna Maria Henn who was born at the same place Dec. 25, 1806. They came to Iowa in a very early day, settling on the farm where the present Victoria Wallingford Casey and husband live. The country was then very primitive and the descendants recall hearing of the Indians passing their cabin frequently, on their way to hunt; and learning they could obtain food at this friendly cabin, were especially desirous of finding hot biscuits, of which they were very fond. They never molested anything, and came and went in single file on their way.

Eight children were born to this family, viz: Lydia, Daniel, Aaron, Joshua, Delilah, Sophia, Noah and Sarah. The mother, Anna Maria, died in July, 1849, aged 42 years, and is buried with an infant child in the family plot, just east of the Casey farm as mentioned before, the inscription on the stone being in German.

The father then moved with some of the children to Missouri, where he contracted for a farm. It being in the time of high feeling, during the Civil war and he being loyal to northern policies, was made so uncomfortable by the strong southern settlement, that after repeated threats the family left, fearing for their safety, leaving their land almost paid for, and were never able to regain it. They returned to Iowa, and he later went to Oregon, where he died in May, 1878, aged 82, at Umatilla county.

Of the family of Michael and Anna Maria Miller, Delilah, who was born July 23, 1836, married Jacob Bennett, who was a son of Joel and Jane Bennett, who took up 80 acre of land in the edge of Lee county, three miles east of the Easling corner farm.

The children of the above are as follows: Mary Jane Brown, George Wesley, Charles, Ann Eliza, Cooper?, Noah S., Jacob, Ada Chaney, Daniel and Sophia Endersby.
