Thursday, February 8, 2024In loving memory of Judith Kay Fitch Cook, born on November 8th, 1942, in Creston, Iowa, to Lyle Hildon Fitch and Lenore Mildred Friday Fitch. Her childhood in Lorimor, IA, was shared with seven brothers, Edwin, Bob, Jim, Don, Bruce, Jerry, and Tom, and two sisters, Phyllis and Carolyn (all deceased, except Tom). Judy took pride in her family's accomplishments, with all siblings graduating from high school, guided by their single mother, Lenore.
A true hometown success story, Judy actively participated in various activities, serving as class president and homecoming queen twice each, playing basketball for 3 years, and being a style show participant for 3 years. One of her proudest achievements was serving as drum major in the band for 4 years. Judy graduated in 1961 from East Union High School in Afton, IA.
After graduation, she embarked on her career in Des Moines, IA, working as a secretary for Home Insurance. She shuffled between Lorimor and Des Moines until she found a steady roommate in Mary Ann Smith. Judy married Larry Cook of Des Moines, IA on July 11, 1964, and they were blessed with three children: Kenton David, Timothy Edward, and Kristin Kay.
In 1977, Larry and Judy made Edmond, OK their home, where Judy took on the role of an office manager and excelled as a skilled “B” league tennis player. Their journey continued in 1988 when they relocated to Austin, TX, exploring Central, South, and East Texas, embracing the sights, culture, and, of course, the local cuisine. Returning to Edmond, OK, in 2006, Judy dedicated the next 17 years to fostering friendships, embarking on travels, cherishing moments with their children, and reveling in the pure joy brought by their grandchildren.
At 11:46 pm on January 27th, 2024, cancer peacefully claimed Judy's life at home, in the presence of her husband and brother Tom. She gracefully crossed the Rainbow Bridge, joining her dogs and family in eternal peace.
