Mildred Webb, 85, of Creston, Ia. died Thursday June 29, 2006 at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center in Creston.

Mildred Louise Webb, daughter of Lora M. (Matthews) and Charles A. Newburn was born January 27, 1921 in Maloy, Ia. Mildred enjoyed playing basketball while in school. She made all of her own uniforms through those years. In 1938 her team went to the state tournament. She graduated from the Maloy High School in 1939.

On June 1, 1940 Mildred married Weldon Fredrick Webb in Maryville, Mo. Mildred lived in the Ringgold, Taylor and Union county areas. Mildred was a homemaker and dedicated mother and enjoyed sewing dresses for her daughters and shirts for her sons. Mildred also wrote a book about her life. Mildred was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), in Creston, Church Achievers group, a Railroad Women's Auxiliary where she had been an officer in several capacities, as well as a former member of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include three sons: Jim (wife Sandy) Webb of Des Moines, Ed of Creston; and Fred (wife Ann) of Esteline, South Dakota; two daughters: Donna Smith of Kansas City, Mo.; Arlene (husband Richard) Sweet of Great Bend, Kan.; brother-in-law: Gale Webb (wife Jo) of Cromwell; two sisters-in-law: Verena Webb of Urbandale, Jennie Webb of Denver, Colo.; nine grandchildren: Weldon (wife Becky) Huff, Rick (wife Lisa) Sweet, Randall (service in Iraq) (wife Loretta) Sweet, Kelli (husband Octaviano) Castañeda, Rodney (wife Rhonda) Sweet, Kevin (wife Amy) Webb, Debra Webb, Melissa Webb and Krista Webb; eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces , nephews and friends. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband Weldon in 1991, a brother Joe Newburn and two sons-in law: Lynn Huff and Earl Smith; 4 sisters in law and six brothers in-law.
