Elizabeth J. Kilgore
Elizabeth J. Coleman, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Coleman, was born in Clarksville, Penn. Feb. 20, 1855. She was one of a family of seven children, three of whom, two sisters and one brother, survive.
At an early age she came with her parents to Iowa, locating near Lenox. There for 12 years in the profession of teaching, she devoted her life to young people, in whom she has always taken a great interest.
On March 8, 19883, she as united in marriage to Frank [William Francis] Kilgore and to this union three children were born, one of whom together with the father have preceded her in death. A son, C. C. Kilgore of Shannon City, and a daughter Mrs. J. A. Peterson of Creston, together with seven grandchildren and many other relatives and friends are left to mourn.
Following the death of her husband 12 years ago, Mrs. Kilgore made her home with her daughter. During that time, although in frail health she maintained her sweet spirit of hospitality and there are many who will remember with deep pleasure of their memory of their association with her in the schoolroom where her discipline was a rule of kindness.
Her death Sunday evening was a release from the suffering that she has patiently endured for the last eight months but during that time in some measure at least, loving hands have been able to repay the wonderful mother love that she displayed throughout her life. Mrs. Kilgore passed from this life Sunday evening at the age of 73 years 3 months and 29 days.
