Long, Darrell -
Darrell Long, age 83, Creston, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at
Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.
A Memorial Mass was held Friday, September 15, 2006 at Holy Spirit Catholic
Church, Creston. Fr Leonard Kenkel officiated.
Burial was in the (Jerusalem) Evergreen Cemetery northeast of Creston.
Memorials may be directed to the Staff of Creston Nursing and Rehab Center.
A Flag presentation was held by the Theodore J. Martens VFW Post #1797,
Creston.
Darrell Long was born August 3, 1923 in Clearfield, to Gladys (Short) and Wilbur
Long. He graduated from Shannon City High School in 1941 and entered the U.S.
Air Force. He served 3 1/2 years in Italy, being discharged in 1945.
In 1945 he married Marge Meyer; he worked for 42 years as a textile purchase
representative and set up new textile plants for the Lyons Company, Kansas City, MO.
Marge passed away in 1991. On May 15, 1993, Darrell married Margaret (Kelley)
Wimmer in Creston.
They made their home in Creston. Darrell was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic
Church in Creston.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Margaret of Creston; two step-sons, Gary (wife
Janene) Wimmer, Creston and Bill (wife Jane) Wimmer, Urbandale; one sister in-law,
Leta Long, Sanford, FLA.; one granddaughter: Danielle Long; four step-grandchildren;
and one step great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Marge in 1991, a son, Mark
Long in 2003 and one brother, LeRoy Long.
