Obituary Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare

Mildred Iva Means, 98, of Lorimor, Iowa, died Monday, March 15, 2004, at the Winterset Care Center South in Winterset, Iowa.

She is survived by her three sons, Richard D. Means and wife, Bonnie of Mingo, Iowa, Michael L. Means, and wife, Donna of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, and Robert E. Means, and wife, Jan of Lorimor, Iowa; eight grandchildren Diane Suval and husband, Bill, Susette Williams and husband, Bob, Debra Jackson and husband, Marshall, Richard A. Means, Justin Means, Jody Green and husband, Eric, David Lee Means, and Nancy Hanrahan and husband, Terry; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lewis, and five brothers and four sisters.

Mildred Iva Means was born August 24, 1905 in Murray, Iowa, the daughter Cassius and Lula (Ives) Loy. She graduated from Lorimor High School in 1924 and later received her teaching certificate. On August 4, 1926, she married Lewis D. Means. Together they remained in Lorimor until 1946, moved to Mingo, Iowa and later Berwick from 1951-1954 and back to Lorimor until her move to Winterset Care Center North. Mildred was a homemaker most of her life and taught country school in her early years. She was a member of the Lorimor United Methodist Church and Methodist Women and was also a member of the Lorimor American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, tatting, and quilting. She was a gardener and enjoyed canning. Mildred played the piano, sang alto, and is said to have made the best fried chicken in the world.

Burial Lorimor Cemetery, Lorimor, Iowa

Visitation: Thursday, 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 March 18, 2004 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare

Service: Friday, 10:30 a.m. March 19, 2004 at Lorimor United Methodist Church, Lorimor, Iowa

Memorial: Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 19, 2004 at the Lorimor United Methodist Church in Lorimor, where Pastors Ben Turner and Sandy Smith will officiate. Visitation will be held 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 18, 2004 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, where the family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday evening. Burial will be in the Lorimor Cemetery, Lorimor, Iowa following funeral services. Memorials may be directed to the Lorimor United Methodist Church or the Lorimor American Legion Auxiliary.
