The Late

J. B. Harsh
______
Funeral Services Held

Thursday at Three

O'clock at home
________

The funeral services of the late J. B. Harsh were held yesterday at the family home in Creston, Iowa, at three o'clock in the afternoon. A very large concourse of people listened to the eloquent and touching funeral oration which was pronounced by Dr. Fisher, Dean of divinity in the School Department of Lombard College at the University of Chicago.

The spacious rooms of the residence were filled to overflowing and the extensive lawn was crowded with friends and admirers of the deceased, for whom no inside accommodation was possible.

Dr. Fisher described with great vividness the many and multifarious experiences which filled the active life of the deceased, and the innumerable duties, public and private, which he had assumed and successfully performed. He concluded with a reference to the family ties so dear to Mr. Harsh, the wonderful woman he had married, the children who were born, and the faithful character of the deceased as a husband and father. Dr. Fisher had no note of doubt in his remarks as to the future happiness of the dead, or the living, but stated as though it was a matter of common knowledge that Mr. Harsh was now in the enjoyment of the company of his children who had preceded him to spirit life; and that the mourners should regard his so-called death as a happy release from suffering. The oration was a splendid tribute to the beneficent life and victorious struggles of Mr. Harsh, crowning his efforts with distinguished success in every direction.

The remains were interred at Graceland cemetery, in accordance with the ritual of the Grand Army of the Republic--Captain J. W. Startton, S. W. Gouldin and other members officiating. The ceremony was concluded by the firing of the customary military salute and the sounding of bugles.

The active pall bearers were: D. Davenport,, R. M. McKnight, Geo. A Ide, L. Troyer, Ray Hazen, J. W. Stratton, J. C. Sullivan, D. W. Higbee, Will Recknor, P. Brenan, Captain Wm. Grounds, J. K. Ewing, F. Stream, S. A. Bowers, L. F. Means, M. Noble
