Toland, Elizabeth Pierce –
Elizabeth Pierce Toland was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, November 11, 1852, and died at the family home in Kent, March 3, 1938, at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 22 days.

More than forty years ago she united with the Christian church at Union City, in which denomination she was an active member, and in that faith she remained steadfast to the end.

On October 10, 1872, she was married to Stephen Toland, who preceded her in death three years ago. To them were born six children, three son and three daughters—Charles F. Toland, deceased, Mrs. John Peak, Mrs. L. C. Bowers and Earl R. Toland, all of Kent; Albert Toland of Glendale, Calif.; and Mrs. F. C. Locke, of Creston.

In 1878 she came to Union county, where she has since resided continuously
— save for one year in Nebraska, until her death, the last 37 years having
been spent in the present family home in Kent. In this home for more than a quarter of a century the Toland family and their descendants have gathered each year for their Christmas reunion.

In addition to her sons and daughters, there are 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren together with untold numbers of friends she has gathered about her throughout the years. She is also survived by one sister, Josephine Pierce and one brother, Albert Pierce, both of Bushnell, Ill.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 at the home in Kent, conducted by Rev. E. F. Hagee of Lenox.
