Harold Kissell, 84, of Creston died Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Crest Haven  Care Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at First ChristIan Church (Disciples of Christ). The Rev. Dianna Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery south of Creston with military rites by Creston VFW Post 1797. Open visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25 is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston. Harold Dean Kissell, son of Rosella Mae (Stearns) and Fay Albert Kissell, was born February 2, 1927, in Creston. Harold graduated from Creston High School in 1945 and went to work in the chicken hatchery. He entered the United Air Corp on December 6, 1945, and served until February 1, 1947. He was in the 11th Air Corp in Alaska and was a B-29 mechanic. He also took aircraft mechanic school at Kessler Field in Biloxi, Mississippi.
On July 10, 1949, Harold married Darline F. Whan in Creston. Harold moved to Eddyville in 1958, where he lived for the next 10 years. He moved back to Creston in 1967. He worked in maintenance for the Highway Commission or 2 years and Iowa Southern Utilities for 39 years, retiring on March 1, 1990.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Creston and a life member of the Creston VFW Post No. 1797.
Harold is survived by his wife, Darline Kissell of Creston; daughters, Carolyn (Anthony) Madrigal of Bellevue, Nebraska, Mary (Roger) Saxton of Creston and Donna (Craig) Shrimpton of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and a son, Charles (Lori) Kissell of Creston. Also grandchildren, Eric Pankowski, Nichole Pankowski (friend, Paul Just), Sara (Andy) Hospodka, Brenda (Paul) Pankowski-Wickman, Paula Leddin, Jeremy Saxton, Ryan (special friend, Jamie Steward), Randi (Bryan) Allen, Rikki Kissell and Reid Kissell; great-grandchildren, Cael, Seth and Ava Hospodka, Grant and Isabella Wickman, Jarrett Kissell, Madison Steward and Hunter, Dalton and Kamdin Allen.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert and sister, Ruth, in childhood.
