Irma Mae Miller, daughter of Stella Blanche (Wilson) and Robert Ira Stradley was born January 22, 1929 in rural Union County near Arispe, Iowa. She graduated from Arispe High School in 1947.

Irma was united in marriage to Leonard C. Miller on June 9, 1947 in the St Edward's Parsonage in Afton. They settled on a farm south of Afton, later moving to another north of Afton.

In 1953, Irma and her family moved to a farm near Lorimor where they lived for a number of years. While living in the Lorimor and Afton area, Irma became a very active and dedicated member of the St Edward Catholic Church, participating in many facets including being a member of the altar and rosary society and the Catholic Daughters. She also was active with her different secretarial and bookkeeping jobs that she had. Even after becoming paralyzed from injuries that she suffered from a car accident in January of 1965, she continued to stay active in her day to day activities including being a talented seamstress, hosting bible studies in her home, being the editor for the Holy Spirit Parish news letter and doing arts and crafts.
After retiring and moving to Creston in 1975, she continued to be active by transferring her membership to Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She also became very interested in genealogy, not only of her own family but also that of Union County and spent many hours volunteering to help others with their genealogical projects. She also was a member of the election board and sat at many polling locations during the different elections, she helped to make those places, along with many others, handicapped accessible, so she could stay active.

Irma is survived by a daughter Carolyn (husband Dan) Downing of Creston, Ia.; two sons: Edward (wife Penny) Miller of Carroll, Ia. and Steve Miller of Creston, Ia.; a sister Vonda Long of Creston; four grandchildren: Amy (husband Ken) Stults, Brian Downing of Creston, Elizabeth Miller of Waterloo, Ia. and Andrew Miller of Nashville, Ind. and two great-grandchildren: Emily and Michael Stults and sisters-in-law, Naomi Dunphy of Creston and Dollie Stradley, of Reading, Pennsylvania.
