Sarah Groesbeck Hass (August 14, 1921 - August 31, 2011)

Sarah Groesbeck Hass, 90, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and formerly of Fort Madison, IA, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Holy Spirit Hospital. Born August 14, 1921, in rural Lorimor, IA, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Esther (Schneider) Groesbeck.

Sarah was a graduate of Iowa State Teacher’s College Class of 1947. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Fort Madison, IA, and was an accomplished fabric artist. Sarah was a member of various art and quilting guilds and was featured in America’s Pictorial Quilts by Caron Mosey, and in some national quilting magazines. She received numerous awards for her quilting art.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth O. (Kayo) Hass, her two brothers Louis and George Groesbeck, and by her sister, Ada Bethune. Surviving are her four children and their spouses: Ken Hass (Julie) of San Juan, Puerto Rico; Neth Hass (Cynthia Dudek) of Anna, IL; Tave Hass (Lynne) of Allendale, MI; and Kara Miller (Caleb) of Mechanicsburg; as well as eight grandchildren: Kamea, Meline, Alexander, and Sarah Abigail Hass, Joelle, Sterling, Braden, and Luisa Miller.

Local funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Slate Hill Mennonite Church, Camp Hill, with viewing held from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. Sunday at the church.

Additional services will take place at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at First Baptist Church, Fort Madison, Iowa. Viewing will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 PM Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Fort Madison, Iowa. Interment will take place in Oakland Cemetery, Soldiers Circle, Fort Madison, Iowa.
