JACOB AWALT DIED SUNDAY
Rites Here Tuesday; Burial At Maryville, Mo.

Jacob Awalt, 84, a resident of Creston since May of 1910, died 11 o’clock yesterday morning at Greater Community hospital where he had been confined for several days following an illness of five months.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Congregational church in charge of the Rev. L. E. Watson and burial will be at Maryville, Mo. Pallbearers will be William E. Rutledge, T. P. Roberts, Lloyd Kenney, C. N. Wilson, J. G. Stamper and Claude Byes.

Mr. Awalt was born Sept. 30, 1854, in Davis county, Iowa, and on Jan. 24, 1880 was married to Mary King in Maryville, Mo. She died in 1908, and on May 3, 1911, he was married to Dora Swan Elliott, who preceded him in death, Aug. 1, 1934.

Surviving are two sons, Harry H. Awalt of Minneapolis and John Awalt of Omaha. Two daughters, Nellie and Gertrude, preceded him in death. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

Mr. Awalt moved to Maryville in 1876 and lived until 1910 when he moved to Creston. During his residence here he was employed by the former Jackson-Sherry Lumber company and the Creston Lumber and Coal company, being an employee of the latter at the time of his death.

He was a deacon of the Congregational church here and chaplain of the Elks Lodge of Creston. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge at Maryville for more than 50 years.

Following the rites here Tuesday morning the body will leave the McGregor Bros. and Coen’s funeral home at 1 p.m. for Maryville, where services will be conducted by the Masonic Lodge at the grave there at 5 p.m.
