Creston News Advertiser, Thursday, August 1, 1924

On sunday morning of this week the citizens of our community were shocked when word was passed around that Mrs. Fred H. Wilkie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Snider, had passed away. She, in company with her husband and two children, had just arrived in Shannon from their home in Minnesota, a few days previous to her death, she being ill at the time of her arrival here, but not considered dangerous. Complications set in and everything possible was done to alleviate her suffering.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon from the M.E. church of this city, Rev. Carl brown conducting the services and burial was in Oakland cemetery.

Ethel Queen Snider, eldest daughter of Robert and Winifred Snider, was born Dec. 1, 1899, near Shannon City, and departed this life July 27, 1924, at the home of her parents in Shannon, at the age of 24 years, 7 months and 28 days.

Her childhood and youth were spent in this vacinity, she receiving her education in the Shannon High School.

On July 29, 1918, she was united in marriage to Fred H. Wilkie at Des Moines after which she resided in and near this community until two months ago when they went to Clinton, Minn., where they remained until her illness. Her wish was to return to her home, where she departed into the land of rest to await the coming of her loved ones. To this union were born two children, Gerald Wayne and Geraldine Ruth.

At the age of 10 years she united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Tingley, and later her membership was transferred to Shannon City. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors at Shannon City.

Besides her husband and children she leaves to mourn her loss, her father and mother, four sisters, Mrs. Edith Pauline Eklund of Afton, Misses Esther Lorine, Elsie Marie, Elenore Elizabeth Margarite of the city, her grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.B. Brown, Mrs. M. Snider and a host of other relatives and friends--Shannon City Messenger.
