Sterling C. Donner was born in Illinois, February 11, 1861 and departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Cone near Arispe, Iowa December 28, 1939, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 17 days.

He was the youngest of a family of eight children; was made an orphan by death when a small boy and was reared by relatives.

He was united in marriage October 22, 1882 to Henrietta Preston and six children were born to this union, Mrs. A.L. Roodell living in California; Mrs. E.E. Leech of Oskaloosa; Mrs. W.A. Stoner of Creston; R.L. Donner of Afton; Mrs. F.C. Cone of Arispe; Mrs. L.E. Oakes of Shannon City. There are also nine grand children, seven great grand children and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Donner preceded him in death in 1920.

He came to Union county, Iowa over fifty years ago and spent the balance of his life here except four years in Tingley, Ringgold County.
