AFTON--Erma Scherer, 95, of rural Afton died April 21, 1995, at Greater Community Hospital in Creston.

Services were 1:30 p.m. April 24, at the Stroud-Lindsay Golden Rule Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge Street, Afton. The Rev. Pam Farren, pastor of the Arispe United Methodist Church, Officiated the service. Music was by Bonnie Riepe, organist and Don Wilson, vocalist. Burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton. Memorials my be directed to the United Methodist Church, Arispe.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Cheers, Bill Crittenden, Frank Eighme, Marion Hess, Carl Perkins and Jake Van Heeswyk.

Honorary pall bearers were Gayle McKinnie, John Riepe, Donald Staver and Francis Sweet.

Mrs. Scherer was born June 28, 1899, in Afton to Nathan F. and Lorena (Williamson) Collett. On Oct. 1, 1919, she married Deyo Scherer in Des Moines. She was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of Union County. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and Ladies Aid in Arispe and Bethal Book Club.

Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (wife Jeraldine) Scherer of Shannon City and Dean (wife Joyce) Scherer of Polk City; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ruby Collett of Creston.

She was preceded in death by her husband. Deyo on Oct. 29, 1981; a sister and three brothers.
