March 12, 1998 (Thursday), Page 2, Column 1:"Vera Harrison. Vera Harrison, 83, Creston, was born to A[lba] J[acob] and Estella Blanche Osborn Leighton June 26, 1914, at Gravity [Taylor County, Iowa]. She died March 3, 1998, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
She graduated from Gravity High School. She was married to Glenn Harrison on Dec. 3, 1938, in Des Moines and lived in the Cromwell area all of her married life.
Mrs. Harrison was a member of the Cromwell Congregational Church, American Saddlebred Association, and was inducted into the Iowa Horsemen’s Hall of Fame in 1987, and was a member of the Cromwell Congregational Church Women.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband in 1997; brothers Lowell, Harold and Merrill Leighton; and sisters Ruth McMahon and Grace West.
She is survived by her twin sister Velma Hames, Port Richey, Fla.; sisters-in-law Ruth Leighton, Cook, Wash., Mima Janky, Natches, Miss., and Fern Davis, Council Bluffs.
Services were held March 6 at the Cromwell Congregational Church with the Rev. Lucretia Parks officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery [aka Cromwell Cemetery] in Cromwell.
Memorials are to the Cromwell Congregational Church.
Coen-Beaty Funeral Home in Creston was in charge of arrangements.” END
