I am trying to do some family history about my dad, William L. McCandless aka Ronald Lemar Uglow, Clearfield,Ringold County, Iowa. He wasn't adopted but they changed his name while he lived with them. After he left their home around 1933 he took back his name and lived a time with different people in the Bedford area. He later married Lucille Snyder (daughter of Glenn and Cassie (Miller) Snyder of Bedford.
About 1925 ( age about 4 or 5) he was sent from the Annie Wittmeyer Children's Home in Davenport Iowa to live with Floyd and Mary (Bladon) Uglow in Clearfield, Iowa. I do have a picture of my dad about 10 years old and also a young girl, Constance, who lived with William and Minnie Bladon. After Minnie's death Constance lived with Mabel Bladon, daughter of William and Minnie and sister to Mary Bladon Uglow. My Dad said Constance was also an orphan. Babies in the picture are Loren and Margaret Joyce Uglow.
My dad attended schools in Ringold County and also Clearfield area schools.
My dad is 91 and still lives in his own home. I am a member of Ancestry.com so I do have the 1930 census records of Constance L. Bladon living with William and Minne and my dad living with the Floyd and Mary Uglow home at age 10 in 1930.
I also have a picture of Will Bladon and his daughter Mable plus a newsclipping titled Ronald Uglow to State Fair with Miss Bladon. (from Clearfield Enterprise Thursday, August 31, 1933
I also have a clipping of the Bedford Times-Press of June 7, 1934 listing Rural Schools to Graduate 136 on Friday - Gay Township listing Ronald Uglow.
