LENOX TIME TABLE DECEMBER 25, 1913: The community was shocked last Saturday evening by the announcement that J. C. Filbert was dead. Mr. Filbert was stricken late Saturday afternoon while shoveling snow from the walks. He was carried into the house and a doctor was called, but the stricken man was beyond human aid. He passed away that evening. Funeral sevices were held yesterday at 10 am at St. Patrick's church, Father Troy officiating.

OBITUARY: John C. Filbert was born in France and died at his home in Lenox, Iowa, Saturday December 20, 1913 at the ripe age of 80 years, three months and 19 days. He came across the ocean with his parents when three weeks old to New Orleans, Lousiana, and from there to Peoria, Illinois, where he was united in marriage 55 years ago to Miss Mary Paymal , who survives him.
To this union, nine children were born, three of whom died in childhood. The survivors are Ed and John Filbert, Mrs. C. L. Underwood, Mrs. Fred Brooks, all of this locality; Mrs. T. C. Olson of Ellston, and Frank Filbert of Forbes, North Dakota. All the children attended the funeral except Frank. Mr. Filbert came to Taylor County, Iowa with his family about 40 years ago, and settled near the Leonard settlement northwest of Sharpsburg, and lived here continuously except one year in Kansas. Mr. Filbert was Catholic in faith, and was of a cheery, optimistic disposition, looking on the bright side of life, and was liked and respected by all who knew him. His many years of residence here gained him a wide circle of friends and acquaintances who will join us in extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives. The funeral services were held in the Catholic church, Lenox,Iowa, conducted by Rev. Father Troy, after which he was laid to rest in Fairview cemetery. Buried St. Patrick, Lenox,Iowa, Row 8 Lot 14 east part of Lenox cemetery.
