JOSEPH AND MARGARET MAGGIE NOVAK

I live near Seattle and have been trying for years to find out when my great-grandmother died and where. I've looked in census records for the family, checked what obituaries are available, etc., but with no success.
Margaret Ulc married Joseph Novak in Bohemia, and they immigrated to America in approximately 1860. I've also heard her referred to as Maggie or Magdalena.
The Novaks had seven children: George, Albert, Catherine, twins Joseph and James, Rose and Emma. Emma was my grandmother and was born 8 Feb. 1885 in Chelsea. I've been told that her mother died several years later. The father remarried, and the new stepmother apparently didn't want the youngest ones, Rose and Emma, so they were sent to a convent or home of sorts. Both youngsters grew up very bitter toward their father and stepmother and destroyed any pictures or mementos they had of them. Both girls married just after the turn of the century and lived in Belle Plaine, across the line in Benton County, for many years.
So I have no way of knowing the exact year Margaret Ulc died, when Joseph Novak remarried, where the two youngsters were sent, or even that Emma Novak was indeed born 8 Feb. 1885 because she later lied about her age when she married my grandfather, Charles Hanousek, in October 1902.
Do you have any tips for continuing my research? Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
