William Appelgate

I am trying to locate descendants of William Appelgate or a county genealogical society or museum. I am the archivist at Iowa Wesleyan University in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. I have received a collection of familial documents and photographs related to William Appelgate/Irene Allen Oaks/Albert Hotopp and would like to place them with direct line descendants or a county repository. This is a significant collection including Civil War Discharge documents dated Sep. 28, 1864 from Kingston, Georgia; a large picture of "The Old Oaks Homestead, 4 1/4 miles south west of Gladbrook, Iowa; a large picture of "Uncle John Oaks and Aunt Libb, Grandpa Oak's brother" (this looks like a wedding picture). We would like to place these with the family as they are not pertinent to the University archives.
