Hello!! My name is Leslie Goldsmith and I live in Chariton, Iowa. I have a very nice immigrant's chest that is printed with the name Heinrich Wiese, RR2, Garwin, Tama County, Iowa USA . This is actually painted on the front of the chest and on the side is a paper sticker from a German ship. I have used this beautiful chest for several years after purchasing it at an auction, and have recently done some remodeling and no longer have use for the chest. I was wondering if there may be a relative of this man still in Tama County, or if anyone else there would be interested in purchasing the chest---it is quite large, with a rounded top made out of a single log. It has no nails, rather, tongue-in-groove joints and wooden pegs. The locking mechanism has been removed via a fairly small hole in the back of the trunk. I assumed they were unable to get into the locked trunk. All of the pieces of the lock are still there, however. I will get a picture of it, if anyone expresses interest. I noted the record of a Henry Weise in the area, who married Catharina Speth on July 11, 1879. I am hoping that is my Heinrich and this chest can make it back into the family.
Sincerely,
Leslie Goldsmith
