I'm researching an Ada E. Doty, wife of a Roland P. Smith (not 100% abt the forename & initial).
Mr. Smith was apparently a marshal at Chelsea in 1900 or 1901. He is reported to have been shot during a bank robbery, dying 5 hrs. later.
His son (William Abel Smith) was born 10-Jun-1901, I do not know if posthumously. In April of 1902, his widow, Ada E. (Doty) Smith, remarried to a Grant L. Ostrom in Poweshiek county.
Both the Dotys and the Ostroms are Poweshiek county families. Poweshiek county has its share of Smiths, as well, but I haven't a clue to the antecedents and connections of the slain marshal. His son, William Abel Smith, became the progenitor of a sizable Poweshiek county clan...
I presumed there would be some local notoriety about the situation, and hoped to find information about it on the Tama county website. The site search and Message Board searches returned nothing, however.
Any information would be appreciated!
