William and Daniel O. Eshbaugh

ESHBAUGH

My grandmother was Helen Eshbaugh Ward, the daughter of Daniel O. Eshbaugh and ___ Otis. The family originally hailed from Iowa, but Daniel and his son and daughters moved to Montclair, New Jersey in the 1870s or 1880s. He died a suicide after a business deal fell through and he was called to account by the Fireman's Insurance Company.

Entirely by chance, I recently came upon a commutation of rations file at the National Archives for one William Eshbaugh of Tama County who was captured by the Confederates while serving in Company B of the Second Iowa Cavalry. I wonder who William was and how he may have been related to my great grandfather Daniel. I have not yet reviewed the census records for Tama County as I am immobilized, I hope temporarily, by a bad hip.I would appreciate any information you might have.

Best regards,

Andrew Ward
