JOHN A. GRAY

John A. Gray, 79, a member of the Toledo City Council, died Wednesday at the Marshalltown Area Community Hospital.

Born Feb.16, 1902, at Naches, Wash. He was married to Irma Harris on June 23, 1927, at Toledo.

Mr. Gray was first employed by the Iowa State Highway Commission, but then operated a grocery and produce business in Toledo until 1947. Later, he was engaged in farming and the grain storage business until he retired in 1975. He had served on the City Council for the past 13 years, and was a member of the Tama County Landfill Commission, the Toledo Lions Club, and the First United Methodist Church of Toledo.

Surviving are his wife; a son John of Chappaqua, NY; three daughters, Gloria Zajecek of Iowa City, Merry Valdahl of New Hampton and Dianne Gray of Washington, Iowa; a brother, Harry of Toledo; three sisters, Pearl Lorenzen of Toledo, Mabel Van Nice of St. Ansgar and Beatrice Calkins of Denver, Colo.; and 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services: Saturday at 10:30 am, First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Chet Davis. Friends may call at the Henderson Funeral Home, Toledo, until 9 am Saturday. The casket will be closed at the church. Burial: Woodlawn Cemetery, Toledo.
