At the time of the death of Mrs. Margaret Budgett The Democrat was not furnished with material for a proper obituary notice. The following is therefore copied from the Traer Star-Clipper:
Mrs. Margaret Budgett, long a resident of Tama County, died July 22, 1898, in Cherokee, Iowa at the age of 66 years. She was born on the Isle of Wight, England, and came to this country in 1851. After a residence of five years in New York City, she came to Iowa, where she has since made her home. She was married to Charles Budgett in 1853. To them were born twelve children, eight of whom, four sons and four daughters, with the father, survive the mother. Mrs. Budgett became a Christian many years ago and she and her husband joined the United Brethren church. The past four years she lived in Cherokee, where she was for some time prior to her death a very great sufferer. She was however, patient and resigned to the dealings of Providence. She led a good life and had a peaceful triumphant departure to her home above. Her remains were brought to the home of her son-in-law, Edward Ebersole, near Baker’s Grove. The funeral took place on Sunday, July 24, Dr. M. R. Drury, pastor of the United Brethren church of Toledo, preaching the sermon in the Pleasant Hill M. E. church in Howard Township. There was a large attendance of old friends and neighbors and great sympathy was shown the bereaved family. The interment took place in the cemetery near the church, and in the neighborhood where the deceased had long lived and where she was greatly beloved for her kindness of heart and goodness of life.
