Catherine Varnek
1864-1896

Estherville Daily News (Estherville, Iowa) Wednesday, 23 Sep 1896, page 2
Tama, Ia., Sept. 18.—While William Haniwalt of Chelsea was going to his pasture, in crossing the river he found the body of Mrs. Joseph Varnek floating in the water. Her night clothes, all she had on, had caught on a log. She had left sometime after 1:30 a. m., gone to the river and thrown herself in. She leaves five small children, all girls, the oldest ten years and the youngest a babe of five months. Domestic trouble was the cause.
[I suspect that Varnek should be spelled Vranek. Someone please let me know, if that is the case.]
