Chas. Cramond Died Today, June 6, 1935

Found Dead this Morning by Neighbors

Charles S. Cramond, 82 years old and a resident of Tama for about 53 years, was found dead in his bed this Thursday morning by neighbors.
Mr. Cramond was last seen last evening when his neighbors saw him talking to friends at his front door. Mr. Cramond had been getting milk from Clarence Primmer each morning. Yesterday morning, however, he failed to call for his milk and when he did not go to get the milk this morning, Mr. Primmer was alarmed and went to the Cramond home Mr. Primmer received no response when he knocked at the door so he called Mrs. Henry Friedrichs, a neighbor. Mrs. Friedrichs went into the house and found Mr. Cramond dead.
Mr. Cramond evidently passed away in his sleep about 4 o'clock this morning. Coroner Harvey Jones was called and said death was caused by acute endocarditis. Coroner Jones said there would be no inquest.
Mr. Cramond suffered several minor heart attacks the past winter.
Charles Simon Cramond, the son of William and Mary Cramond, was born July 28, 1853 in Rochester, N. Y. On October 15, 1877 he was united in marriage with Emma Finch.
Mr. Cramond came to Tama in 1882 where he practiced his trade as a mason until 12 years ago. He then operated a stand on the Lincoln highway, on east Fifth street, until ill health forced him to close the stand the early part of this year.
Mr. Cramond is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Price of Tama and Mrs. John Campbell of Toledo. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and two half-sisters, Mrs. Emma Knapp and Mrs. Frances Stroller of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his wife who died April 3, 1933 and by four daughters, Mrs. Fred Herschel, Mrs. Henry Ehlers, Mrs. DeWitt Kern and Goldie Lily who died at the age of 7 years.
No definite funeral arrangements have been made.

Funeral of Charles S. Cramond Held Sunday; Burial in Tama Cemetery
Funeral services for Charles S. Cramond, who died last Thursday morning at his home in Tama, were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Harrison Funeral Home in Tama, Rev. J. H. Yaggy, pastor of the United Brethren church of Toledo officiated.
Mrs. Carl B. Harrison say, "I Need Thee Every Hour" and "Sweet Today." Mrs. Carl Brice accompanied at the piano.
Pallbearers were four sons-in-law of the deceased, Elmer Price of Tama, Henry Ehlers of Columbia township, John Campbell of Toledo and DeWitt Kern of Montour; and two grandsons, Charles Campbell and Clarence Stewart of Toledo.
Mr. Cramond was laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery in Tama beside his wife, four daughters and a grandson, Raymond Kern.
Those from a distance who attended the services were Mrs. M. M. Peacock, John Peacock and William Mercer of Silvas, Ill., Mrs. John Finch of Wyoming, Iowa, Mrs. Nola Wilson and son, Kenneth and Mr. and Mrs. George Thompson of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Penelope Breeden and Mrs. James Woods of Gilman.

OBITUARY

Charles Simon Cramond, the son of William Cramond and Mary Stroller Cramond, was born July 28, 1853 in in Rochester, N. Y. and passed away June 6, 1934 at his home in Tama, at the age of 51 years, 10 months and 9 days. Mr. Cramond's parents were both born in England.
When Mr. Cramond was a young boy his mother died and he traveled with his father, learning the mason trade from him.
On October 15, 1877, Mr. Cramond was united in marriage with Emma Finch at Wyoming, Iowa. The couple farmed a small acreage near Wyoming until October, 1882 when they moved to Tama. In Tama Mr. Cramond worked at his trade as a mason until about 12 years ago when ill health forced him to find lighter work. He then operated a store on the old Lincoln Highway on East Fifth street near his home. Mr. Cramond closed the store the early part of this year because of poor health.
Mr. Cramond joined the United Brethren church in 1889. He was a man of many fine qualities of character, devoted to his home and family. He was a true friend and kind and helpful neighbor.
Mr. Cramond is survived by two of his six daughters, Mrs. Elmer Price of Tama and Mrs. John Campbell of Toledo. He also leaves eleven grand children and two great grandchildren and two half sisters, Mrs. Emma Knapp and Mrs. Fanny Stotler of St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his wife who died April 3, 1933, and by four daughters, Mrs. Fred Herschel, Mrs. Henry Ehlers, Mrs. DeWitt Kern and Goldie Lily, who died at the age of 7 years.
