Obituary
The death of Charles Chase, which occurred at the home of his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Eli Chase, a few miles south of town, last Saturday, September 21; while not unexpected came as a shock to the community. He had been a sufferer for six years with consumption and died a victim of that disease, aged forty five years, two months and eleven days. The funeral services were held at the late home of the deceased Sunday, September 20, at 1 o'clock, p.m. conducted by Rev. Will F. Spry who preached a tender and sympathetic sermon from the words, " We shall miss thee for thy place shall be vacant." Interment took place at Oak Hill cemetery, a large concourse of sympathizing friends escorting the remains to their hallowed resting place.
The deceased was born July 10, 1850, near Marengo, Iowa, and moved with his parents in 1851 to Tama. He was reared in this county. He was married to Emma A. Weak, February 28, 18?? And to them was born four children - three boys and one girl - James, Arthur, Frank and Florence. His wife died in January, 1890. He was a member of the Congregational church and died as he lived, firm in the Christian faith. His sorrowing parents and other relatives have the sympathy of many friends in their great bereavement.
