Obituary for Gail William Mauck
Gail William Mauck, 101, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2018. Services will be held at 11:00AM Friday, October 19, 2018 at First United Methodist Church, Clinton. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30AM until the service time. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Gail’s grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Gail was born August 26, 1917 in Garwin, Iowa the son of Charles James and Alma (Dunn) Mauck. Gail married Eleanor Ruth Tompkins June 9, 1946 at First United Methodist Church, Clinton; Eleanor passed on August 8, 1989.
Gail was employed for 45 years with Clinton Corn/Nabisco Brands, retiring June 1, 1983.
Gail was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, serving on the Administrative Board, including Trustee of the Board. Gail was a graduate of the Scoville Business College.
Gail was a veteran of the United States Army as a Sergeant Major in WWII, where he received the Bronze Star. During the war he served in Australia, the Philippines and New Guinea in the 32nd Infantry Red Arrow Division.
He was formerly active with the YMCA swim program, Jr. Chamber of Commerce, University of Iowa “I Club”, the American Legion, Clinton Fireman’s Retirement Board, Clinton Country Club and was a past board member of the Country Club.
Survivors include his Children, Bill (Sandy) Mauck of Rockbridge, OH; Patty (Mike) Holm of Owatonna, MN and Jim (Jeanine) Mauck of Anguilla BWI; Grandchildren, Chris (Lori) Holm, Tim (Denise) Mauck, Courtney (Brandon) Ulstad, Debbie Hill, Mariel (Steve) Ramsey, Mallory (Jenaro) Cardona-Fox ; 11Great-grandchildren; and sister, Maxine Mauck Wagner of Clinton.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert Mauck and Eugene (Mutt) Mauck.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Children’s Ministry, or to the National WW II Museum.
