DALLAS D. HOTCHKISS

Dallas D. Hotchkiss, 82, of Tama-Toledo and Muskogee, OK, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama with Military honors. Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Masonic Service at 7 PM.

Dallas was born on January 11, 1935 at home in Tama, Iowa, the son of Jasper and Gladys (Ray) Hotchkiss.

He graduated from Tama High School in the Class of 1953. Following his school years in Tama, he enlisted in the USAF. Dallas served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Dallas married Maralyn Fuller in 1957 and together they had two daughters. They were later divorced. On June 21, 1986, he married Karen Rathjen Bell. Karen passed away fourteen years from the date of their marriage. On October 9, 2004, he married Sherry Wyatt.

Dallas was previously employed at Amana Refrigeration, Central Iowa Telephone Co., Tama Paperboard, Farm Service, and the US Postal Service in Tama as a mail carrier for twenty-nine years. After retirement, he worked at the Tama State Bank for ten years, and was a funeral assistant at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama for sixteen years. Dallas was a member of Living faith United Methodist Church in Tama. Dallas was very active in the Tama community. He had been a member of the Tama Legion Post 73 for sixty-one years, F.O.E. Aerie 2828 for fifty-five years, a Past Master of Hiram of Tyre Lodge No. 118 for fifty years, Masonic Consistory and Shrine, STC School Board, Tama City Council, Tama Fire Department as a volunteer ambulance driver, and Tama-Toledo Country Club, and enjoyed the morning coffee group. Dallas took stats for the South Tama football team for many years and was an avid Hawkeye fan. He participated in AAU Industrial League basketball, several bowling leagues, and golf. Dallas enjoyed walking the trail around Cherry Lake. In recent years, Dallas and Sherry have been wintering in Muskogee, OK.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry of Toledo and Muskogee, OK; two daughters, DalLynn (Bruce) Hotchkiss McEltree of Toledo, and Diana (Mike) Tower of Strasburg, CO; two step-children, Kristyn Bell (Joe Bolkcom) of West Des Moines, and Tyler (Ryan) Strunk of Muskogee, OK; five grandchidreln, Devin, Dallas (Shayne Turner), Dustin, and Dirk Boerm, and DeAna Schatzman (Andy Morris); two step-grandsons, Wyatt and Zane Strunk; and one great-granddaughter, Emrie Morris; one sister, Dorothy Yuska of Hampton, GA;
brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Scott and Sandy Wyatt; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Karen; four sisters, Ielene Rutledge, Doris Hotchkiss, Viola See, and Bernice McCoy; and one brother, Harold Hotchkiss.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama.
