KATHERINE NACHAZEL SIKIR

Mrs. Katherine Nachazel Sikir did last week at her home in Salt Creek township. She was a victim of cancer, from which she had been ill since last Christmas.

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday by Speaker J.J. Mekota, of Cedar Rapids. Those acting as pall bearers were Albert Dvorak, Anton Babinet, Joe Dvorak, Frank Adams, Martin Benton, and James Petrazalek. Burial was in the National cemetery at Vining.

The decedent was 75 years of age at the time of her death. She was born in Checho Slovakia and came to this country when but 4 years old, her family settling in Tama county. Here she grew to young womanhood and was married in the fall of 1873 to Jos. Sikir, of Tama county. Mr. Sikir passed away July 4, 1883, and she was again married on Jan. 27, 1887, to Vaclav Sikir, at Toledo, Ia. The latter also preceded her in death August 11. 1924.

Mrs. Sikir was the mother of the following children: Frank and Emil of Irving; Joe and John, at home; a daughter, Mary Petrazalek, of Irving; and a son, Cha. Sikir, also of Irving. Aside from her own family she reared a niece, Mrs. Agnes Formanek, in her home.

She was a good neighbor and spent much of her time in helping others.

Besides her children she leaves a brother, Joe Nachazel, of Chelsea, and a sister, Mrs. Vencil Herink, near Traer. There are also seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, many other relatives and friends.
