LEONARD JANTZEN

Leonard Jantzen, 91, of Tama, a native of Grinnell, died Friday, April 26, in Tama.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at the Harrison Funeral Home in Tama, with the Rev. Jerry Evelsizer officiating. Organist was Helen Berrey, and pallbearers were, Jerry, Michael, Timothy, Jeffrey and Robert Jantzen and Trent Hootman. Burial was in Sheridan Cemetery, rural Grinnell.

The son of Fred and Katherine Hink Jantzen, he was born April 15, 1904, in Grinnell. He received his education in rural schools.

He was married to Alma Sieck Oct. 10, 1925, and they farmed in Sheridan Township. They moved to Tama in 1953, and Mr. Jantzen worked on the police force, serving as chief for six years. Mrs. Jantzen died in 1970.

In July 1972, he was married to Beverly Kinzebau. She died in 1974.

Mr. Jantzen retired from the police department in 1976 and worked at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama and then at Weitzell Sawmill, also in Tama. He also worked at the Tama County Courthouse for four years and at the Tama City Park. He became a resident of Sunny Hill Care Center in 1993.

He was a charter member of the Tama Eagles lodge.

Surviving are three sons, Harold of rural Malcom, Lyle of Toledo and Donald of Traer; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Silhanek of Chelsea and Edna Hayek of Belle Plaine; and one brother, Clifford of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his wives, Alma and Beverly; one daughter, Betty; a grandson; one brother, Wilbur; and three sisters, Esther Osland, Minnie Parmley and Hilda Puls.

A memorial fund has been established.
